Parent Back-to-School Night & NEW PARENT MEETING – August 28

All parents are invited to attend an informative evening to meet your student’s teachers who will present overviews of their curriculum and procedures. Although there will not be time for lengthy individual conversations, teachers will answer general questions regarding their objectives and goals. You will follow an abbreviated version of your student’s class schedule. Please have your student share his/her Monday class schedule or download a copy from the Family Portal and bring it with you. We will start with first period at 7:00 p.m.

  • OPTIONAL CANVAS TRAINING – If you would like to learn more about our Learning Management System, Canvas, and how to effectively use it to monitor your student’s learning, a 30-minute demo-and-guide training session will be held in the Chapel before Back-to-School Night at 6:00 p.m.
  • OPTIONAL NEW PARENT MEETING – All parents new to CVCA are invited to the Chapel at 6:30 p.m. for an optional session with our new student counselors and administrative team. We will share strategies for supporting students and answer frequently asked questions of first-year families.

Bus Transportation and Traffic

  • This year we are partnering with Walsh Jesuit to provide busing for CVCA students. The deadline to register has been extended for CVCA families. All of the details are available HERE. Please REGISTER HERE.

Traffic flow reminders

There are several things to keep in mind as you navigate student drop-off and pick-up times and locations.

  • Be patient as we all work to manage traffic flow. It will improve over the next couple of weeks as everyone falls into a routine.
  • Due to the heavy traffic at the Middle School Entrance, middle school students may also utilize the high school drop off location and enter through the Athletics side entrance.
  • Keep in mind the following drop-off and pick-up instructions, and note that the Rasnick Center is not a drop-off or pick up location:

Before School:

  • Students may arrive at school as early as 7:15 a.m. ALL students arriving between 7:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. should use the Royals Fieldhouse entrance. No other doors will be open before 7:30 a.m.
  • If at all possible, students should arrive between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. and proceed directly to their first class of the day. All entrances are open to students at 7:30 a.m.
  • Students should be dropped off at the following doors between 7:30 a.m. and 7:50 a.m.: Learning Commons, New Entrance, or Middle School Entrance.
  • Students who have parked their cars may enter at the Rasnick Center, but cars may not drop students off there.
  • Please do not drop off students at the main entrance after 7:25 a.m. as this space is reserved for school buses.

After School:

  • The same doors used for drop off may be used for pick up.
  • For the safety of all students, it is critical that families pick up students as close to the 2:50 p.m. dismissal time as possible. If a student does not have an extracurricular practice, meeting, or rehearsal, they need to leave campus.
  • In order for thorough cleaning to occur each afternoon, the building needs to be clear of students by 3:05 p.m.
  • Between 2:50 p.m. and 3:05 p.m. students should transition to their after-school practice or leave campus immediately at 2:50 p.m.
  • General supervision will not be provided after 2:50 p.m. Students involved in athletics, fine arts, and other after-school activities are under the supervision of coaches, advisors, etc.

The change in this is that the student now owns the process and follows the requirements accordingly. It is a small shift, and counselors are here to help support students who wish to pursue this type of diploma. More details are available HERE.

Most Academic Challenge students are involved in other activities, so if you are too, that’s fine; Academic Challenge can still work with most student’s schedules.
