Don’t forget to complete the Jterm Registration for the 6th Grade Jterm Experience! More details will be coming in late November/early December. We will need parent chaperones to help us with these trips! If you are interested in serving as a chaperone for one or more days of Jterm (Tuesday, January 5 – Thursday, January 7), please complete THIS FORM.
We have finished our first two introductory units on operations with whole numbers and integers! We are now transitioning to fractions and decimals during the first half of the second quarter. As you go about your daily routines, look for opportunities to help your students practice these skills in real-life situations, such as comparing prices at the grocery store, calculating gas costs, or figuring out a restaurant bill. These everyday experiences show students how math applies beyond the classroom!
We are completing our Leaf Collections (I know some parents are taking a sigh of relief) by creating a Leaf Booklet. The directions are explained on CANVAS, and the students will have their second “work day” opportunity this week during block days. I look forward to seeing the colorful and informative booklets on Monday.
We are also wrapping up our Physical and Chemical Change lessons with a quiz this Friday. Then I am excited to be moving into a “4 Spheres” Unit next week, including a creative Ranger Rick magazine activity. Be sure to ask your student all about it!
Lastly, thanks for reading over your student’s 2nd-quarter Science goals with them. I feel it is important to reflect on one’s efforts and how we can better ourselves. Looking forward to seeing how your student will continue to grow not only as a student, but also (and more importantly) as a child of God!
We will finish Unit 2 on capitalization in our grammar books and have a test. We will then begin Unit 3 and study the use of commas in writing.
We will finish reading Holes and begin working on writing personal narratives “with a twist.” We will also celebrate finishing the novel with a movie and snack. Please watch your email for an opportunity to contribute!
Please talk with your student about a nonfiction topic he/she would like to read about. All students must find a nonfiction book by November 2 to bring to school and to read in class. The book should be age-appropriate and between 150 and 200 pages.
Students have been working through the 50 states and capitals while also learning about the ingredients that make up a civilization. We recently wrapped up our civilization unit and are preparing for our unit test! One of the highlights was our Ancient Civilization Simulation Game, where students worked in groups to create their own civilizations and make important decisions that could gain or lose them resources. A winning civilization was crowned in each class period!
Your students have been studying the books of the Old Testament and will be working through an overview of the whole Bible this quarter! We will also be memorizing the names of the books of the Bible, so that your students grow more confident in finding things in the Bible on their own.
Mrs. McGough’s Class: We left our Etymology unit and took a virtual field trip to Ancient Greece! Now, we’re working on singing and writing our ABC’s in Koine Greek. On Fridays, we’re continuing to progress with ASL, fingerspelling our ABC’s and signing John 1:1. Next up, we’re transitioning from signing Jesus Loves Me to singing it in Koine Greek. Ἰησοῦς ἀγαπᾷ με!
Mrs. Bartel’s Class: We are beginning Spanish through looking at God’s gift of chocolate! We learned a hand rhythm about chocolate, will investigate how chocolate is produced, and will enjoy some samples of different flavors! We will also be talking about Spanish-speaking countries and listening to some fun music videos! I would encourage your students to share with you what they are learning in class!

Students should have learned how to record their service hours. This process includes your approval via text or email. If you or your student has any questions, please refer to the Service Hours Canvas class, email your student’s Bible teacher, or email Mrs. Hoffman.
