Sixth-Grade Newsletter

April 2026

GENERAL INFORMATION

Sarah Telepak, MS Principal: stelepak@cvcaroyals.org

Jonathan Knab, MS Assistant Principal: jknab@cvcaroyals.org

  •  Save the date for Jumpstart! Our annual beginning of the year retreat will be August 18-20. Be on the lookout for more information coming soon!

MATH

Haley Shedden: hshedden@cvcaroyals.org

Sean McDowell: smcdowell@cvcaroyals.org

  • We will finish the year by introducing 7th-grade concepts to help prepare students for more advanced topics next year. We will then wrap up with a final end-of-year project that reviews and reinforces all of the key 6th-grade skills we’ve learned!

  • It has been such a joy to see all of our students grow in their math confidence, as well as in their mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills this year!

SCIENCE

Mrs. Karen Shelford: kshelford@cvcaroyals.org

Mrs. Tammy Smith: tsmith@cvcaroyals.org

Smith:

  • We are wrapping up our unit on Rocks and Minerals, and will finish off the year learning about the soil under our feet. Students will have the opportunity to create an Ohio Land-Use Pitch as the culminating project.
  • I am amazed at the beautiful transformation of the 6th graders in my care. They have grown by leaps and bounds throughout this school year. Thank you for letting me have a small part in that!

Shelford:

  • We are continuing with our Rock Unit: learning more about the 3 types of rocks and the rock cycle, and ending the year with a few more cool hands-on labs.
  • We are pausing periodically to work on our Birthstone projects, which will be presented starting block days the week of May 4. Remember, each STEP of this project is worth a test grade- so please put in the extra effort and maybe give your presentation in front of your family to get some practice. I’m looking forward to how each of you, store owners, will be creatively saving your businesses!

ENGLISH

Traci Willison: twillison@cvcaroyals.org

Jennifer Davies: jdavies@cvcaroyals.org

  • 6th graders will be reading the nonfiction books that they have chosen on topics that interest them. They are taking notes in preparation for delivering an informational speech to their classmates.
  • Classes will work in the grammar books, learning about adjectives and adverbs. Membean will continue as homework through May 10.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Brianna Jones: bjones@cvcaroyals.org

Christian Canonico: ccanonico@cvcaroyals.org

Our final unit is an overview of Ancient China. Then we will wrap up our time in 6th-grade social studies with a “create your own civilization project” based on what we have learned this year about ancient civilizations. It’s going to be so fun!

BIBLE

Jenna Barbieri: jbarbieri@cvcaroyals.org

Dwayne Reed: dreed@cvcaroyals.org

We are starting our last unit in the year this week! Your students will be working hard on a group project that uses all of the skills they’ve developed this year: Bible study skills, writing skills, working-with-others skills, and acting skills! I hope they will enjoy it and have lots of info for you about all that they’re learning.

WORLD LANGUAGE

Mrs. Elizabeth Sims: esims@cvcaroyals.org

Mrs. Heather Bartel: hbartel@cvcaroyals.org

We are excited to finish our unit with Greek gods and goddesses and their unique contributions to language and culture, and continue to learn Biblical Greek words to add to our study of God’s Word!

GUIDANCE COUNSELING

Mrs. Beth Marosi: bmarosi@cvcaroyals.org

Mr. Ryan Baxter: rbaxter@cvcaroyals.org

We have loved getting to know your 6th-grade student this year!  Thank you for helping us prepare for 2026-2027 by submitting course requests for your child. In 7th grade, each student takes core academic classes, PE/Health, and one elective. Each August, schedules are released about one week before classes resume. Please reach out with any questions. We are praying for you and your student.
