SCHOOL-WIDE ANNOUNCEMENTS

High School Testing and Middle School Day Off – October 9

On the morning of Thursday, October 9, sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT at school. Freshmen will take the YouScience Aptitude and Career Discovery test. Seniors will have a class meeting, and middle school students will not have school. Details are below.

MIDDLE SCHOOL: 6th, 7th, and 8th-graders do not need to report to school on Thursday, October 9.

Freshmen (YOUSCIENCE): Ninth-grade students should arrive at the regular start time and proceed to their assigned YouScience testing rooms, bringing their fully-charged Chromebooks. YouScience testing will be complete by 10:20 a.m., and ninth graders may be picked up at the Learning Commons entrance any time after 10:20 a.m.

  • YouScience® Aptitude & Career Discovery allows students to get a glimpse into their unique design by God as social creatures, problem solvers, and learners. These insights lend themselves to refining (and individualizing) students’ scheduling choices at CVCA, their college search, and their professional interests.
To access your student’s assessment results:
    1. Ask your student to log in to the YouScience homepage on their CVCA Chromebook.
    2. Click on “Aptitudes and Discovery.”
    3. Click on “Discover Aptitudes.”
    4. Click on “Download Aptitudes” in the upper right-hand corner for the complete Strengths Profile Report.
  • All students waiting for rides after the PSAT and YouScience testing should report to the Learning Commons following their testing sessions.

Sophomores and Juniors (PSAT): Digital PSAT testing will be administered to tenth and eleventh-grade students. Students testing that day should arrive at the regular school start time and head promptly to their assigned testing rooms (based on lists posted around the building). Each student’s Chromebook should be fully charged to last for the whole digital test. PSAT tests should be completed by 11:30 a.m., and students may be picked up at that time.

  • The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) serves as both a practice test for the SAT and a qualifying test for the National Merit® Scholarship Program (11th grade only). The PSAT/NMSQT assesses skills in reading, writing, and math, helping students identify areas for improvement, prepare for the SAT, and potentially earn scholarships based on their performance. The PSAT/NMSQT plays a crucial role in a student’s academic journey.
  • Test results will be available mid-November, and students may receive a copy of their scores directly from their grade-level school counselor in the Office of School and College Counseling.

SENIORS: Twelfth-grade students will report to school by 9:00 a.m. and head to the Rasnick Center for some important announcements and senior functions. They will be released around 10:15 a.m.

WEBSITE HIGHLIGHTS

Canvas or Family Portal?

Do you know the difference between Canvas and Family Portal? Both are easily accessed through the MY CVCA page and serve as valuable tools for CVCA families.

  • Canvas (LMS – Learning Management System) is the hub for academics. Students use it to submit assignments, track due dates, and engage with course materials.
  • Family Portal (FACTS) is designed for school-related business. Parents use it for payments such as field trips and activities. It also provides access to student transcripts, progress reports, and report cards – the only academic crossover with Canvas.
