GENERAL INFORMATION

Scott Iannetta, MS Principal: siannetta@cvcaroyals.org

Sarah Telepak, MS Assistant Principal: stelepak@cvcaroyals.org

  • Fall Break is October 9-13.
  • Check Canvas and Planners daily.
    • When looking at your student’s Canvas gradebook, you will notice that late assignments are labeled with a BLUE LATE.
    • If the assignment is marked with a RED MISSING indication, this means the teacher has NOT received it, whether on Canvas or on paper.
    • Teachers try to make sure that every assignment is accurately labeled by the end of the day.
  • Way to show school spirit during Spirit Week! Continue to give your best efforts in your classes!
  • Thank you to all the parents and students who attended Ignition Rewind, and to our speakers.

MATH

Nicole Studer: nstuder@cvcaroyals.org

Sean McDowell: smcdowell@cvcaroyals.org

Over the next few weeks, we will start our next chapter on rates, unit rates, and proportions. Students will complete a road trip project in which they will plan a cost-effective and fun trip for themselves and four friends. Students will select their trip destination, rental car, hotel accommodations, city attractions, and determine the gas prices.

A few reminders:

  • Test Corrections: Throughout the school year, students can complete test corrections to receive partial credit. This is a great opportunity to review the chapter information and fix their mistakes. This also gives students the opportunity to improve their test scores. Anyone can complete test corrections, regardless of their test score.
  • Calculator: Students need to purchase a calculator (if they don’t already have one), and bring it to class every day starting in October. We recommend the Texas Instruments TI-30XS or Texas Instruments TI-30X IIS calculator. This calculator can be found on Amazon and Walmart.

SCIENCE

Isabel Chaplin: ichaplin@cvcaroyals.org

Pierson Chapman: pchapman@cvcaroyals.org

  • We are currently wrapping up our first unit, which covers the scientific method and the application of scientific skills to analyze data and write reports.
  • Our next unit, which will span the next few weeks, delves into matter, atoms, chemical reactions, and the periodic table. These topics include a mix of individual and group activities, projects, and labs. For each class, students should bring their Chromebook, science binder, a writing utensil, and headphones.

ENGLISH

Meredith Neufeld: mneufeld@cvcaroyals.org

Jennifer Davies: jdavies@cvcaroyals.org

Neufield:

  • Over the next few weeks, students will meet during class to discuss and process feedback about their trip essays.
  • Students will also read the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.” They will have a calendar (both a paper copy and a digital copy in Canvas) to help them track their reading progress, and a specific Google Assignment will be provided for students to use to record characters, quotes, biblical connections, and chapter summaries as they read. No reading is scheduled for the weekends, so students should use that time to catch up if they’re behind, read ahead if desired, or review what they’ve read.

Davies:

  • In addition to the items mentioned above, students will begin working with their literature circles during October. We will explore the idea of how the choices of others affect the world around us by examining five different stories set during the 1930s and 1940s. These novels follow the stories of children and teenagers as they navigate the harsh realities of living through wars, racism, and personal hardships. Students will work closely with their literature circle to engage in discussions, analyze the text, and explore the historical context of your novel.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Jon Knab: jknab@cvcaroyals.org

David Ramey: dramey@cvcaroyals.org

Christian Canonico: ccanonico@cvcaroyals.org

  • Over the past few weeks, students participated in a Civilization Simulation. We reviewed the characteristics that all early civilizations shared, and students worked in teams to create and manage their own civilizations. Along the way, they faced a variety of real-world challenges and scenarios that tested their problem-solving, teamwork, and decision-making skills. Teams earned points in various categories as they navigated these challenges, and this past Monday, we crowned the winning group in front of the entire grade. The winning civilization was named Nightfall from 6th period!
  • All students have the opportunity to complete test corrections to earn credit back on multiple-choice questions that they missed. This is a great way to reflect on what they’ve learned, understand any mistakes, and improve their scores. We strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of this!
  • Please ensure that your student has headphones in their backpack for use in class. A cheap, wired pair is fine. They are considered a required school supply. Thank you!

BIBLE

Zach Churchill: zchurchill@cvcaroyals.org

Dwayne Reed: dreed@cvcaroyals.org

  • Having completed our blast through major events of the Old Testament, we are now ready to dive deep into the Gospel of Luke! Students have been placed in groups called Luke Chapter Research Presentation Groups that will be responsible for leading our class through two different chapters of Luke. They will come up with five mysteries to research, create a Google or Canva slideshow to present their findings, and design a fun game for their classmates to enjoy.
  • Students also recently learned about an assignment that they will have several months to work on called the Individual Creative Project. Students will have the opportunity to create something that tells the story of Jesus (or another topic we’ve covered this year) in some way. Most students choose to create paintings, but there are many other options available.
  • In the meantime, students will continue to write Spiritual Reflections where they engage with a devotional topic and then write two paragraphs (five sentences of summary and five sentences of reflection) on the subject.
  • Students will also begin  “Luke Worksheets,” which aim to prepare them to participate in in-depth discussions of each chapter of the Gospel of Luke.

WORLD LANGUAGE

Mrs. Elizabeth Sims: esims@cvcaroyals.org

Mrs. Heather Bartel: hbartel@cvcaroyals.org

  • SIMS – LATIN:
    • Students should be working on their Roman Timeline due on October 3.
    • Please keep up with any vocabulary discussed in class. All resources are found in the Module named Classroom Resources on Canvas.
    • Remember, if an assignment is late, a point will be deducted from your overall grade.
  • BARTEL – LATIN:
    • We have been having so much fun learning Latin with stories! Invite your student to tell one of their favorite stories to you in Latin, or have them read in English one of the stories written in Latin! I am impressed! I hope you are, too!

ELECTIVES

Kiara Brown (Art): kibrown@cvcaroyals.org

Middle School Art – 7 Principles of Design Project:

  • Objective: Students learned the seven principles of design (ex., movement, emphasis, patterned, etc.) and worked in a group to create a specific principle correctly while using markers and colored pencils. The winners received candy!
  • Projects: Over the past few weeks, students have learned about the Elements of Art and created artwork that is personally connected to their identity, their faith in Christ, and their passions. Over the next few weeks, we will create artwork that represents our family, neighborhood, and culture. Most work will be viewable under the reflection posts seen on Canvas. Check out their work!
