MATH

Pre-Algebra – Zach Davis: zdavis@cvcaroyals.org

Algebra 1 – Kate Raymond: kraymond@cvcaroyals.org

We will be working on our last chapter of the year before doing some 9th-grade preparation and Final exam preparation. ALL Chapter 8 homework will now require a completed grid paper. To receive full credit for homework students must show all required work and submit their grid paper on time. Homework corrections will still be available each day following the homework assignment.

Students are doing a great job of bringing graphing calculators to class. Thank you for the encouragement from home. March brings the fun of warmer weather, Pi Day, and March Madness Brackets! Content-wise, we are currently covering multiplying and factoring polynomials, and we’ll hit quadratic functions after spring break.

SCIENCE

Science 8 – Tammy Smith: tsmith@cvcaroyals.org

Physical Science – Kelli Brown: kbrown@cvcaroyals.org

This semester started with a look at worldviews and science. Evolutionists and Creationists can look at the same information and make different conclusions. The students were able to do their own research on a topic and draw logical conclusions from the information they found. Physical Science students have studied a lot of physics this year, and now they are beginning some chemistry units. We have talked a lot about the evidence of God’s hand in the design of the world, even in something as small as an atom.

ENGLISH

Lisa Spodnik: lspodnik@cvcaroyals.org

Julia Bowers: jbowers@cvcaroyals.org

Our dystopian literature unit is wrapping up with student presentations. We’ll end the quarter by beginning our drama unit, which will include a film study and continued exploration of literature through the biblical worldview theme of a broken world and redeemed people.

There will be no Membean assignments over spring break, but please continue your great effort both before and after the break!

SOCIAL STUDIES

Jordan Samsonas: jsamsonas@cvcaroyals.org

Stephanie Sondej: ssondej@cvcaroyals.org

We are working through Unit 8 and will be having a test on that unit before Spring Break. During the 4th quarter, we will work through Units 9 and 10. Our content at this point is pre-Civil War and the Civil War. Students will be taking a 2nd semester exam, which will cover Units 5-10.

BIBLE

Eileen Hoffman: ehoffman@cvcaroyals.org

Jordan Cavanagh: jcavanagh@cvcaroyals.org

Kristina Quigley: kquigley@cvcaroyals.org

Sarah Telepak: stelepak@cvcaroyals.org

We are finishing Paul’s second journey and will take the Unit 4 Test (over chapters 13 through 18) before Spring Break.

SPANISH

Margaret Tumino: mtumino@cvcaroyals.org

We are building the launchpad that will carry students into Levels 2, 3, 4, and even AP ¡allá vamos! Right now, we’re having fun with the basics: nouns, articles, infinitives, and those first steps into verb conjugation.

  • This year is extra exciting because we’re diving into a brand-new curriculum called Encuentros, which comes with a super interactive online program and a workbook that keeps things hands-on and engaging.
  • To keep vocabulary practice fresh and fun, we use Gimkit and Quizlet. Students get so competitive that half the time it feels more like a game show than a class!
  • On our longer block days, we slow things down in a meaningful way by studying the book of John in the Bible together, giving students the opportunity to grow in both language and faith.

ART ELECTIVE

Kiara Brown (Art): kibrown@cvcaroyals.org

Many classes are beginning the clay unit, where they will make an expressive face on the surface of a hand-built vase. Other classes are creating a Yarn Painting focused on family, traditions, and good memories. Another class is creating a Micrographic Portrait, where students must use only words to form a drawing of a memorable person of the Christian faith today. Recently completed projects focused on printmaking, acrylic painting, and researching the career and life of a popular/contemporary visual artist. As the fourth quarter arrives, we will begin preparing for the Visual Art Show on May 4, and we will need your support! More information about the show will be announced later.

TECHNOLOGY ELECTIVE

Ben Weber: bweber@cvcaroyals.org

We are currently working through a unit in Video Production taught by faculty fellow Mr. Iverson.  Students are filming their own short movie and learning about video editing software.  The remainder of the school year will continue to focus on skills in technology that will benefit students throughout high school.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Heather Rios: hrios@cvcaroyals.org

Nick Cook: ncook@cvcaroyals.org

Almost time to bowl! PE classes will head to Clutch Lanes during their class time in November. Look for a permission slip to come home soon.

GUIDANCE COUNSELING

Mrs. Beth Marosi: bmarosi@cvcaroyals.org

Mr. Ryan Baxter: rbaxter@cvcaroyals.org

We are thankful for the opportunity to know and pray for your 8th-grade students over their CVCA Middle School years.  They are welcome to drop in if they would like to talk.  All class schedule planning for the 2026-2027 school year for your 8th grader will be handled by Mr. Randy Tomich, CVCA’s 9th Grade Counselor.  He has visited Bible classes over the past few weeks.  Questions about 9th grade can be sent to him at rtomich@cvcaroyals.org.

SERVICE

Eileen Hoffman: ehoffman@cvcaroyals.org

Keep in mind that the 16 hours of volunteer service are due on May 1, so be sure to finish up!  Spring break is a great time for students to get caught up with those last few hours if you are in town! Touch base with your Bible teacher if you have any questions.

SMO

Louisa Neumann: lneumann@cvcaroyals.org

Dwayne Reed: dreed@cvcaroyals.org

At the beginning of the year, all the 8th-grade students who joined us at Launch Point wrote a letter to themselves to read at the end of their 8th-grade year! That time has now come! Our 8th graders will receive their letters between now and the end of the year.
