Congratulations, Academic Challenge Team

Near the end of last semester, CVCA’s Academic Challenge students participated in a national online tournament called the Fall 3-2-1, fielding a varsity team and a “junior high” (7th through 9th grade) team. The younger team took 2nd out of 12 teams, and the varsity took 22nd out of 113 teams, so with both groups placing in the top 20%, they each earned a spot in a more selective national competition in May. Congratulations to varsity participants Jude Armstrong, Caroline Dressel, Owen Lee, Daniel Parker, Aurora Woodruff, Madeline Currall, Talie Koch, and captain Sarah Choi, and JH participants Paige Davies, Jovi Prenatt, Avery Ucker, Mia Ugarte, Solana Calderhead, Wyatt Barnes, Will Helin, Katie Krieger, and captain Ben Choi on a job well done!

Congratulations, Talking Royals

The Talking Royals competed against students from forty-six other schools at Hoover High School on Saturday. The team was led by Nathan Cook, the tournament champion in United States Extemporaneous Speaking. Other highlights include Dominic Catalano’s 6th place rank in International Extemporaneous Speaking, Clive Horn’s 7th place in his Dramatic Interpretation debut, and Megan Marshall’s 7th place finish in Program Oral Interpretation, the last bid she needs to qualify for the State Tournament. Nathan, Dominic, and Clive all earned awards as the top novices in their events.

Student Photo Contest

Students at CVCA are invited to participate in the Yearbook Photo Contest. Students can submit up to three photos to yearbook@cvcaroyals.org by February 12 to be considered. Your submission should include the photo taken by you, the title of your photo, and a short artist statement to be published along with your photo. Judges outside of Yearbook will vote to choose winners of the contest. The prize for winning is a feature in the 2024 Yearbook. The submission deadline is February 12.

Shya Designs House Parties

Shya Designs, a SOBE student-run business, began as a way to aid Rwandan women impacted by genocide in their country. To support themselves and revive joy within their lives, these strong women began making bags and other products that reflect their country’s culture.

Shya Designs parties are the perfect way to gather friends and family to see these products, hear the Shya message, and support these admirable women. If you would be interested in hosting or attending a house party or online party, please complete THIS FORM. We would love to tell you more about this opportunity.
