Ministry Overview:

Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy is a non-profit ministry dedicated to Educating and Cultivating Servants for Christ. We are a middle and senior high school committed to high academic standards. Our biblically integrated, college-preparatory curriculum is delivered by a dedicated staff of Christian professionals committed to teaching from a biblical worldview and philosophy. We are committed to providing our students with experiences that will foster in them a servant’s heart, including extra-curricular activities, inter-scholastic athletics, music, theater, short-term mission trips, and numerous service opportunities. Job Summary:

The purpose of the High School Guidance Counselor for the Office of School and College Counseling is to guide high school students and their families through decisions upon which the student’s current and future academic success hinges. In particular, the high school counselor advises students and parents about CVCA’s academic protocols and community expectations, in addition to providing support to high school administration, the Dean of Academics, OASIS, and faculty with respect to high school student needs or learning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creates and makes necessary adjustments to students’ academic schedules.
  • Advises high school students struggling with challenging academic expectations or relational roadblocks toward peers, coaches, and teachers.
  • Provides academic counsel to students relative to selecting appropriately challenging and goal-oriented high school courses.
  • Learns to competently use technological tools (Naviance, YouScience, etc.) frequently used in the counseling of CVCA students.
  • Provides counsel to students relative to the college search and application process.
  • Provides assistance with standardized testing and master scheduling, as needed.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of the best practices and tools in school and college counseling.
  • Attends Open House, Orientation, and other events through which school counselors provide special support to CVCA families.
  • Attends grade-level faculty meetings as an advisor and team member for the support of high school faculty and students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Master’s Degree in School Counseling (Preferred)
  • Higher Education Experience (Preferred)
  • Three (3) years of related experience (Preferred)

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Work is typically performed in a standard office setting
  • May require frequent sitting, standing, or walking
