GENERAL INFORMATION

Scott Iannetta, MS Principal: siannetta@cvcaroyals.org

Sarah Telepak, MS Assistant Principal: stelepak@cvcaroyals.org

The second quarter is a great time to start fresh, stay on top of assignments, and check Canvas! If any students need assignment notebooks to keep track of assignments and have lost theirs, replacements are available.

MATH

Haley Shedden: hshedden@cvcaroyals.org

Sean McDowell: smcdowell@cvcaroyals.org

  • We’ve just begun our new unit on Numerical and Algebraic Expressions. Students are learning how to write, evaluate, and simplify expressions. The Chapter 3 Test is scheduled for November 7.
  • We’ll also have MAP Testing on November 19-20, so please make sure students are rested and ready to do their best. After that, we’ll dive into a new unit on Equations just before Thanksgiving break.

SCIENCE

Mrs. Karen Shelford: kshelford@cvcaroyals.org

Mrs. Tammy Smith: tsmith@cvcaroyals.org

  • Both 6th-grade science teachers are getting charged up as we head into the atmosphere.
  • Did you know that our atmosphere consists of five layers, each with its own distinct characteristics?
  • Your student will learn about all these layers, further examples of the many ways God provides for life on earth.

ENGLISH

Traci Willison: twillison@cvcaroyals.org

Jennifer Davies: jdavies@cvcaroyals.org

  • All  sixth graders are finishing reading Holes by Louis Sachar, and we will celebrate by watching the movie in class with a special themed treat. Please watch your email for an opportunity to send in items.
  • Our next novels will be read within literature circles. All of the books will be borrowed from the Learning Commons here at school, so there is no need to purchase or find one at a library.
  • We will have MAP testing during the week of November 17. These standardized tests are administered in the fall and spring each year to measure academic growth. Please remind your child not to stress about the test, as there is no passing or failing. It would be beneficial for each student to come prepared by getting plenty of rest and having a healthy breakfast.
  • For the next month in grammar, we will work on using various punctuation correctly: apostrophes, colons, quotation marks, etc.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Brianna Jones: bjones@cvcaroyals.org

Christian Canonico: ccanonico@cvcaroyals.org

  • Don’t forget: Our Final States and Capitals Test will be on Tuesday, November 25 right before Thanksgiving Break. Keep up the great work!

BIBLE

Jenna Barbieri: jbarbieri@cvcaroyals.org

Scott Iannetta: siannetta@cvcaroyals.org

For Barbieri’s classes:

  • Start preparing for the Old Testament Test on Monday, November 3. A study guide is posted on Canvas, and you will get a paper copy on the block day this week.
  • Don’t forget to keep memorizing the Books of the Bible. We have a quiz on these every Block Day! Check the assignments in Canvas or the Books of the Bible Handout for information about which books are on each quiz.

WORLD LANGUAGE

Mrs. Elizabeth Sims: esims@cvcaroyals.org

Mrs. Heather Bartel: hbartel@cvcaroyals.org

We have officially started American Sign Language (ASL). We have learned the Five Parameters, the History of ASL (Gallaudet), the fingerspelling rules, and the Do’s and Don’ts of ASL. We are about to embark on so much more. Stay up to speed!

Mrs. Beth Marosi (students with last names A-K) and Mr. Ryan Baxter (students with last names L-Z), our Middle School Guidance team, helped welcome your students to CVCA and 6th grade this quarter.

  • They recently visited the Bible classes so students know who they are and how to find them for drop-in visits or questions.
  • Feel free to reach out with questions!

SERVICE

Eileen Hoffman: ehoffman@cvcaroyals.org

Good news! The hours you earned on our Sixth Grade Serve Day Field Trip have already been entered into your HelperHelper assignment. You do not need to log these hours.

The boys served by raking leaves and other activities at Camp Carl, while the girls’ Connections groups gained hands-on experience at programs in the Akron area, such as Open M, the Akron Food Bank, and Haven of Rest. So proud of our 6th graders and their helping hearts! We put together over 200 grocery bags at the Akron Food Bank! Way to go, Sixth Grade!
