Extension for Service Hours Verification
Students are required to use the Helper Helper app to track and verify their Service Expectation hours (8 per semester). Students can download Helper Helper from the app store on their smart phone, or use the web app on their Chromebook. It is a quick, easy, and accurate way to track and verify their service hours. Students simply click “Add past commitments” and include their parent or guardian’s email address in order for the hours to be verified. The parent/guardian will then receive either an email or text to electronically verify the submitted hours. Students were asked to have their hours entered on or before December 5. However, since this is a new procedure, we will accept first semester submissions and verification through December 14 for the pass/fail grade. Any service hours that were completed between May 25 and December 14 can be submitted. Please keep in mind that there is a one-day turnaround for the electronic verification process, so hours entered on December 15 will not be included in the grading process.

CVCA Senior Named All-American
Senior Colin Gaines was recently named to the 2017 Fall High School Boys All-American Team. The honor, given by the United Soccer Coaches Association, is given to the best soccer players in the nation each year and was awarded to just 67 boys this season. Colin was also named 1st Team All-State, 1st Team All-District, and recently signed to play collegiately at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
Head coach Angelo Finelli shared, “This prestigious honor has only been awarded to four soccer players in the history of CVCA’s men’s soccer program. While a wonderful accomplishment on its own, it is even more outstanding when considering Colin’s role on the team. Typically, awards tend to be tied to large statistics like goals and assists. As a holding midfielder in a team-first culture, Colin’s role was not to produce large numbers of goals and assists but to lead the midfield with penetrating passes, a tireless work rate, and a commanding presence for his teammates. To have these qualities recognized and awarded as one of the top players in the United States is a testimony to Colin’s commitment to doing his role as hard as possible and his teammates.”
Colin responded, “I’d like to thank all of my coaches for the sacrifices they have made for me and for putting me and my teammates in a position to succeed on and off the field. To my brothers on the team, thank you for sharpening me every day on and off the field and always pushing me and keeping me accountable. Without you, there’s no chance I would receive this honor! Iron will always sharpen iron and my teammates have been that for me.”
