Our Beginning

In 1967, 14 men created a Forward Planning Committee to pray and discuss forming a new Christian junior and senior high school in northeast Ohio. Enrollment at a local Christian elementary school had grown to an extent that a secondary school was needed to accommodate its graduates. The group committed to forming a school based on Christian principles with excellent standards – a goal that has guided the school since.

In March of 1968, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy was founded; and in the fall of 1969, the school’s doors opened with 198 students in grades 7 to 12. They met at Crawford School, an abandoned school building in Cuyahoga Falls, until construction of the Academy’s new building was completed in May of 1970. On June 5, 1970, CVCA held its first commencement ceremony for their senior class of eight students.

The school grew in enrollment, programs, and building size; and on March 10, 1975, CVCA became an Ohio state-chartered middle school and high school for grades 7 to 12.

Our Growth

In the past 50 years, the Lord has blessed Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy immeasurably. Our campus, curriculum, and enrollment have grown beyond what our founding fathers could have imagined, impacting multiple generations of students, faculty, and staff.

Today, CVCA is a college-preparatory designated middle and high school committed to Educating and Cultivating Servants for Christ. In 2016, our school’s leaders looked forward to discern what God would have for His school. The result was the 2020 Strategic Plan. Many elements of the plan have already been implemented, including a 1-to-1 Chromebook technology program, additional AP and dual credit courses, campus renovations and updates, the formation of OASIS (Office of Academic Success and Instructional Services), and expanded tuition assistance opportunities. The goal of every aspect of the 2020 Strategic Plan is to best prepare 21st century disciples of Christ by maximizing their gifts while fostering an authentic relationship with Jesus to create Kingdom impact.

Our Future

With the goal to create a wider Kingdom impact has come the decision to create a comprehensive middle school program for 6th through 8th grade students. The CVCA middle school experience will more fully prepare our youngest students for the rigors of the college-prep high school program. As a result of this decision, 6th grade will be added to the Academy with the 2018-2019 school year.

With much prayer and a continued commitment to Christ-honoring excellence, we approach the future knowing that we not only stand on the shoulders of those who have come before us, but on the rich tradition of thousands who have been impacted by this school, God’s school, since 1968.
