CVCA TALKING ROYALS 2010-11 SEASON

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR STATE WINNER!
Ben Pykare, Placed 6th in State Competition
U.S. Extemporaneous Speaking
CVCA’s Talking Royal Speech and Debate team had an outstanding 2010-11 year.
The 30 plus students in grades 9-12 were in competition from the first week in November to first week in March. Some of the highlights of the year were the teams 5th place finish at the 9th Annual CVCA Holiday Classic, a 3rd place finish at the Berea Grindstone Tournament and a 3rd place finish at the Greater Akron District Tournament. The highlight of the season was when the team qualified a record setting 18 students to the 84th annual Ohio High School Speech and Debate Tournament in Toledo in March. Making it to the tournament were the following:
Duo Interpretation: Hannah Ross and Clara King, Maddie Cuckow and Maddie Haskell
Humorous Interpretation: Rachel Criswell, Christian Corpora
Impromptu Speaking: Sarah Baldessari
International Extemporaneous Speaking: Chris Karnadi
Prose and Poetry Reading: Julia Benyo, Grace Bolinger, Michaela Zanin
Public Forum Debate: Annie Cho and Jennah Romansky
Student Congress: Jordan Budrevich, Linda Li
United States Extemporaneous Speaking: Sam Hill, Ben Pykare
Christian Corpora and Michaela Zanin finished as quarter-finalist at the State Tournament in respective events while Ben Pykare was a finalist in United States Extemporaneous Speaking finishing in 6th place. Ben also distinguished himself by finishing as 1st Alternate to the National Tournament in Dallas, Texas in USX speaking. The team is directed by Dale Schilling and assisted by April Burchett, Matt Fleagle and Liz Wides.
