2012 GRAPHIC DESIGN & PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW

Come enjoy some innovative and exciting portfolios produced by our students!

Wednesday, May 9

Contest open to all CVCA students in grades 9-12

Submit your creative photography to Mrs. Stofsick (Room 123A) no later than Friday, February 10 and earn the chance to win money and prizes! In addition, all winning entries are eligible for submission to the Jostens/Wolfe Camera National Photo Contest (www.jostens.com).

CATEGORIES INCLUDE: Student Life/Activities, Academics/Community Service, Sports: Athletes in Action, School Spirit, Portrait, Pictorial, Illustration and Black & White.

No photography will be accepted without entry form and fee. Photos must be printed on 8”x10” professional photographic paper (no copies or laser prints accepted). Download entry form here.

Congratulations to our 2011 Photo Contest Winners!

Enjoy the winning photos of CVCA's recent Photography Contest.  We had over 85 photos entered this year and the competition was fierce. Categories entered were portrait, pictorial, student life, sports and illustration.

Entries with Honorable Mention or higher were submitted to the National Josten's/Wolfe Camera Photography Contest.

YEARBOOK STUDENT RECEIVES AWARD IN DESIGN CONTEST

Congratulations to Lauren Carner '10,  graphic design and yearbook student, for her award-winning yearbook spread.  Lauren received an Honorable Mention from among approximately 600 entries in the 2010 Yearbook Design Contest.

 The contest, in its sixth year, is jointly sponsored by Jostens and Adobe.  Each participant submitted a complete yearbook spread designed using Adobe InDesign software.  The winning entries displayed an awareness of accepted design standards while effectively presenting visual and verbal content in a creative, reader-friendly way.

LEARN MARKETABLE SKILLS WITH YEARBOOK & GRAPHIC DESIGN CLASSES

Yearbook/Journalism: Grade 10, 11 or 12 elective  - Annual - 1 credit

Yearbook/Journalism is a yearlong course in which students learn the rules of professional journalism as they pertain to design and writing techniques. They also become familiar with the Macintosh computer and In-Design software. They learn the necessity of meeting deadlines and maintaining a budget while planning and producing the yearbook. All staff members are responsible for selling ads and may be asked to attend a summer workshop/planning session. Teacher and/or guidance referral is mandatory. Students who participate will also be required to perform duties outside of the classroom. These duties would include photographing at student events and athletics. Yearbook students are eligible to participate in national design and photography competitions. In addition, students may become members of a co-curricular program entitled Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).

Graphic Design: Grade 10, 11 or 12 - Annual - 1 credit

Students learn four principles of design and explore typography and color while incorporating hands-on as well as computer software technology. Students explore the history of graphic design and how it has evolved. Students also perform a portfolio show at the end of the school year. Students take a field trip to see an ad agency. Students may compete in different opportunities and become a member of a co-curricular program entitled Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
