National Honor Society

Forty-four eleventh and twelfth-grade students were inducted into the Jim Elliot Chapter of the National Honor Society in the Anne Tell Chapel on Monday, October 1st.  CVCA’s select handbell choir, The Royal Ringers, provided music for the evening. Mr. Mark Kirk, CVCA Board President, welcomed those in attendance and congratulated inductees on their honor.

The National Honor Society was founded by the National Association of Secondary School Principals more than 75 years ago to promote scholarship, leadership, service, and character in youths of America. At the induction ceremony, Blake Berkey, Carli McMillan, Thompson Paisley, and Brittany Sommers each spoke on one of these four foundational traits.

 Those in attendance, as well as current members and new inductees, were challenged by Mr. Matt Fleagle, CVCA English teacher, as he shared his induction address entitled “Glorious Waste.” Using the powerful quotation of the late Jim Elliot, “Wherever you are – be all there,” Mr. Fleagle recounted how Jim Elliot understood he was created “to be wasted on others” as he served his Creator. He charged the students and all who attended, “May we not fear to be stretched, soiled, and spent in the absolute service of our Lord. Let us all be, for Christ’s sake and in His fashion, a glorious waste!”

The induction program was presented to the CVCA student body at an NHS Chapel on Thursday, October 11.
