Print permission form
If you would like be a member of CVCA’s Color Guard, here are the facts you need to know:
• All girls except returning seniors interested in being a member of the 2010 CVCA Color Guard must audition this year. You must attend a one-day clinic where I will teach basic flag skills as well as a short routine. The clinic will be on Saturday, May 15 from 2:00 – 5:30 p.m. in the large Gym. The actual audition will be the last half-hour of this time period. You will be asked to perform skills and the routine taught at the clinic during the Audition. Equipment will be provided.
• You must include band period in your daily schedule during marching band season (Color Guard meets during Band class). When the football season ends, the marching season ends too. At that point, color guard members could have a study hall, be in symphonic band, or be in the Gospel Choir.
• You must be available to attend CVCA’s Band Camp in August. We will learn most of the marching drill, choreography and routines at band camp. Band Camp will be held August 2-6 and August 9-13. Camp is held at CVCA, usually for about 5 hours a day. Times are TBA.
• The Color Guard will practice one day after school from 3:30 – 4:30 during marching season (We will choose the day with the least conflicts with other activities such as show choir and cheerleading).
• The Marching Royals perform at both home and away football games every Friday night from late August – October. You are expected to be there for each performance. The band sits together in the stands, but has the third quarter free to visit with friends and go to the concession stand. Be aware that if the football team makes the playoffs, our season is extended also.
• The Marching Royals participate in a band exhibition show on a Saturday evening in September. Date is TBA. This performance is mandatory.
• Students who participate in Color Guard for two full seasons receive a PE Waiver (are not required to take PE). You can miss no more than one performance and 5 rehearsals and still earn a PE Waiver.
• Financial expenses for Color Guard are listed below (based on 2009 season prices). Veterans: If you already own these uniform items, you are not required to purchase them again if you make the corps:
