Review of Prevention of Skin Disorders
This a general reminder for parents and athletes participating in Fall sports of common sense precautions for avoiding staph infections and other skin disorders. Skin disorders are common in the sports setting and the likelihood of contacting or spreading these infections can be greatly reduced with proper hygiene practices.
• Keep hands clean by washing with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
• Showering after each practice/game.
• Keep cuts and scrapes clean and covered with a bandage until healed.
• Avoid contact with other people’s wounds or bandages.
• Avoid sharing personal items such as towels, razors, clothing and uniforms.
• Routine cleaning of surfaces such as sports equipment.
• Routine cleaning of uniforms and clothing.
Skin infections caused by Staph may present as a pimple or boil. They may be painful, red, swollen, or have pus or drainage. If an athlete presents with the signs or symptoms of a skin infection it is important to get medical attention as quickly as possible to reduce the severity and spread of the infection. Please contact the Athletic Trainers at the school or your Primary Care Physician if these symptoms are present.

Physicals
All athletes must have an OHSAA athletic physical completed and on file in the athletic office before they can practice or play. Physicals are valid for 12 months from the date of the exam. If the physical expires during the season, a new physical must be completed in order to continue participating. The physical form can be found here. CVCA provides an opportunity to have a physical done at the school at the end of every spring at a nominal cost.
