Royals’ Senior Hockey Players Lead Team of Young Talent
The CVCA Royals hockey team wrapped up the 2008-2009 season with a 4-8 league record and a fifth-place finish in the seven-team Blue Division of the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League. The Royals iced a very young team consisting of six freshmen, six sophomores, and three seniors.
The team was led by senior captain Eric Krolik. Eric was nominated for the Ohio High School Hobey Baker Award, given in recognition of leadership qualities on and off the ice. Senior Beau Ulrey and senior goaltender Ryan Segedi anchored the defense and provided additional leadership to the team.
Freshman Mark Brower led the Royals in scoring with 31 points on 25 goals and six assists. Mark was named as a first team Blue Division All-Star, the only freshman named to the team, while finishing third in the league in goals scored. Freshman Will Hess led the team in assists, with 10, on his way to a 19-point season. The rest of Royal forwards – sophomores John Fisher, Jonathan Lile; freshmen John Wilson, Jesse Canzurlo, Ryan Kifer, and Jesse Hill – made excellent progress this season.
The defensive core was led by a young and physical trio. Sophomores Alex Hamilton, and Steven Harris and freshman Jonathan Hart all left their mark on the league. Sophomore goaltender Jon Robinette also showed strong progress throughout the season.
The Royals coaching staff is eagerly looking forward to next season with the addition of several very competitive incoming freshman to add to the mix of young returning talent. The Royals look to be an up-and-coming team in the Blue Division in 2009-2010.
