The 2007 Varsity Football Team put together one of the best seasons in
school history.
The Royals were led by Senior Linebacker/Fullback Jared Kusar who broke a
school record for tackles in a season, with 131. Seniors Adam Potelicki
and Brian Blake anchored a line that allowed Junior Runningback John
Pettigrew to set a school rushing record with 1,952 yards and 18 Td's.
Seniors CJ Holmes and Nate Hopson each played their roles well for the
Royals. Seniors David Presley, Josh Gruszewski and Maruice Goin were also
key contributors on special teams.
The Mission of the CVCA Football team was "to PLAY with all your HEART",
Proverbs 4:23: "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring
of life" and Colossians 3:23: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your
heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." These verses explain this
team well as they strived every week to play hard, play smart, play
together and play true. The UNITY of the team was their strength and
proved to be the key component in their success.
All Conference honors were awarded to Kusar, Pettigrew, Stephen Hudson,
Cole Dittrich, Alex Utley, Andy Hoffman and Zach Butler.
The 9-2 Royals again defeated Manchester in week 10 which earned them a
trip to the playoffs for the third straight season. The Royals played the
Big Red of Steubenville in a hard fought game that ended in a 28-10
defeat.
Congratulations to the CVCA Football Team for a great season.
