High School Course Offerings
Speech Class

$175.00 - 1/2 credit
Class size limit: 14
This class is designed for students entering 9th-12th grade (fall of 2008). The class will be based on the same curriculum offered in a regular semester class. The overview of the class consists of six parts: Theory of Speech, Five Basic Speeches, Imagery in Literature, Five Basic Readings, Group Discussion Unit, and PowerPoint presentation. All speeches and readings will be from two-to-seven minutes in length. Students will need a notebook. Students successfully completing this course will receive 1/2 credit, which will satisfy the speech credit requirement for graduation. Grade received will calculate in each student’s cumulative GPA.
Computer Applications

This class is for students entering 9th-12th grade (fall of 2008). In the Computer Applications course, students learn basic skills in Word Processing, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, Internet skills, and Web page design. This basic knowledge, along with learned computer operating skills, will enable each student to adapt to other computer programs he or she might encounter in the future.
Students successfully completing this required course will receive 1/2 credit, which will satisfy the Computer Applications graduation requirement. Grade received in this course will calculate in the student’s cumulative GPA.
Physical Education Class (CLASS IS FULL)

Class size limit: 14
This physically demanding class is for students entering 9th-12th grade (fall of 2008). The class will be coed and will be pass/fail. The class will focus on learning about personal fitness while participating in cardiovascular and muscular workouts. Included in the class will be a large biking unit where the students build up to a 20-mile ride. The class includes lifetime activities such as bowling, frisbee, tennis, hiking, group initiatives, water-walking and more. Team sports may include track and field, flag football, sand volleyball and softball.

Health Class

This coed class is intended for students entering 10th-12th grade (fall of 2008). Students will need a three-ring binder for notes and handouts and a journal notebook. Students successfully completing this course will receive 1/2 credit, which will satisfy the health graduation requirement. Grade will calculate in the student’s cumulative GPA.
Algebra Review

Are you ready for Algebra 2? This course is designed for the student who had some difficulty with concepts in Algebra 1 and would benefit from a review of these essential concepts for Algebra 2 or Basic Algebra 2. Students will review concepts from Algebra 1 such as linear and quadratic functions, solving systems of equations and inequalities, and factoring polynomials. Students will benefit from the group setting as well as individual instruction.
Junior High School Course Offerings
CVCA Rocketry Camp
Instructor: Mr. Ed Arida
June 16-20 9:00-11:30 a.m.

Class size limit: 15
A mix of outdoor fun with a touch of “rocket science” makes this camp enjoyable to everyone. Every day we are outside launching rockets. In addition, campers are taught the basics of the following: Lab safety, building techniques, aerodynamics, chemical combustion, and electricity. Each camper will build and take home 2-4 rockets and a complete launch system.
Junior High Computer Concepts 1

In the Junior High Computer Concepts 1 course, students will learn basic keyboarding in Microsoft Office, Internet usage, and presentation software. Experience using these programs will facilitate students in adapting to other word processing, desktop publishing and presentation software they may encounter in the future.
Junior High Computer Concepts 2

This course satisfies the Junior High course requirement. This class is for current CVCA students entering the 8th grade (fall of 2008). In the Junior High Computer Concepts 2 course, students will learn basic applications of Microsoft Office, Internet usage and safety. Students will format documents and develop projects in Word, Publisher, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience using these programs will facilitate students in adapting to other word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet and presentation development software they may encounter in the future.
Junior High Spanish

Satisfies one unit of the junior high language requirement.¡Bienvenidos! Vamos a hablar espanõl...This class gives students an opportunity to begin speaking in Spanish. Students will learn basic vocabulary in an interactive way as well as gain cultural insights from Spanish speaking countries.
Blast into Math!

The purpose of Blast into Math is to reinforce mathematical concepts introduced in the past elementary courses that are fundamental to the success in the Pre-Algebra Part 1 course at CVCA. Some of the skills that will be reinforced are basic math facts (speed, accuracy), place value concepts, basic computations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), and decimal and fraction concepts.

The purpose of Student Success is to help one get the most out of his/her CVCA experience. Each day, the students learn social and academic skills necessary for successful adaptation to CVCA’s environment. They will also learn the biblical importance of these skills.
Communication skills, peer pressure coping techniques, study and organizational skills, note taking, and time management techniques will be emphasized.
