An Explanation of Credit Flexibility
Senate Bill 311 (the Ohio Core legislation) included among its several provisions a requirement that all schools offer students the ability “to earn units of high school credit based on a demonstration of subject area competency, instead of or in combination with completing hours of classroom instruction.” As a chartered, non-tax supported school, we comply with this state statute requiring the offering of Credit Flexibility for our students.
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy believes that we can best educate and cultivate servants for Christ through our courses, Connections, J-term, Schools of Distinction, and extracurricular sports and activities. To this end, we have created strong academic, spiritual, and extra-curricular programs to meet the needs of our students. Although Credit Flexibility is an option available for our students beginning with the 2010-11 school year, we do not believe that this option provides us the best opportunities to fulfill our mission and partner with our school parents, a partnership built upon cooperation, communication, and shared values.
We encourage any family interested in this option to first read the Credit Flexibility application, Ohio Academic Content Standards, and Credit Flexibility Plan—Sample prior to calling Dr. Judy Sewell to receive further information about this student-initiated option.
