Welcome our newest Faculty and Staff Members!
Mrs. Jacqueline Matthews – Assistant to the Dean of Students
Mrs. Matthews had served as an office assistant at CHCS North since 2007. She earned her BA from the University of Michigan in communications and her MA in general administration from Central Michigan University. Mrs. Matthews has also earned a Bible certificate.
Miss Maggie Astrino - French
Miss Astrino earned a BA from the Nazareth College of Rochester with an Art History major and a French minor.She earned an MA in Historical Studies from the Ashland Theological Seminary.Miss Astrino filled in as Mrs. Ickes’ long-term sub during the fourth quarter last school year.She will assist with the Speech and Debate program.
Mr. Jon Young – Athletic Director
Mr. Young earned a BA in Bible and Education from Baptist Bible College in PA, and he earned an MA in Ed Administration from Emporia State in Kansas. For the past six years Mr. Young was employed at Brookings Harbor HS in Oregon.He began as a SS teacher at Brookings Harbor, but for the majority of his time he has served as the AD. Mr. Young also coached basketball, and last school year he added the responsibilities of Dean Students to his role of AD.
Mr. Grant Currier – English and Speech
Mr. Currier earned his BA in English from the University of Akron. He earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from the consortium of the University of Akron, Cleveland State University, Kent State University, and Youngstown State University. Mr. Currier has been a regular sub at CVCA the past two years, and he has been a guest instructor in Mrs. Riordan’s classes. He will work with the Speech and Debate program.
Mr. Brendan Haggerty – Social Studies
Mr. Haggerty earned a BA in History (Integrated SS) from Bluffton University.The past two years he taught in the Kent School District, one year in the middle school and one year in the high school. Mr. Haggerty will coach JH Boys Basketball.
Mr. Steve Hyatt –Bible and International Program
Mr. Hyatt spent the past two years on the staff at Jackson High School in Massillon where he taught Mandarin Chinese and coached JH football.He earned his BA in Biblical/Theological Studies from Wheaton College. He earned an M Div from Trinity Evangelical University. Mr. Hyatt and his wife served with The Pioneers in the People’s Republic of China from 2003-2010. While there, he earned two Chinese diplomas, and he was a PhD candidate in Chinese History and Culture at Ningxia University. Mr. Hyatt has joined the varsity football coaching staff, and he will work with Mr. Schilling as we expand and develop the international program here at CVCA.
Mr. Joe Timco – Dean of Students
Mr. Timco has earned two bachelor degrees from The University of Akron, one in Sports Medicine and one in Education (4-9 Science and Social Studies).He earned his MA in school administration from the University of Cincinnati. Mr. Timco began his career in education in the Medina Highland School District where he served as a middle school teacher and an assistant varsity soccer coach. He began hisadministrative career in the Streetsboro system where he served as an assistant principal in an intermediate school, and he was also the district Athletic Director.Leaving Streetsboro, Mr. Timco accepted the principal’s position at Brown Middle School in Ravenna where he worked last year. His two elementary-age sons attend the Medina Christian Academy.
With the acquisition of Mr. Timco as the Dean of Students, Mr. Putnam will assume the role of Director of Student Supervision. As Director of Student
Supervision, Mr. Putnam will coordinate, supervise, and participate in student supervision in the following areas: before and after school, the lunch room, community life time, chapel to connections and connections to chapel, study halls, hall supervision, and the library.
CVCA welcomes 3 new part-time staff members
Mrs.Valerie Trowbridge - Accounts Payable/Purchasing
Mrs.Trowbridge and Mrs. Rhodes are going to participate in a job share. Mrs. Rhodes is scheduled to work three days per week, and Mrs.Trowbridge is scheduled to work two days per week.
Mrs. Olga Beirne - Special Events Coordinator
Mrs. Beirne will not have regular on-campus hours.
Mrs. Tandy Hicks - Academic Liaison
Mrs. Hicks will be working with CVCA students (primarily grades 9-12) who are presently carrying a cumulative GPA below a 2.5 or who have earned a GPA below a 2.5 for the previous quarter. She will maintain communication among parents, teachers, and the Academic Support staff. Her role is not one of a tutor, but more of a facilitator and one who coordinates collaboration among those who are working with the students in question.
